Slim Thug Interview January 2005

Slim Thug is just the bomb and if you don't know about Slim Thug by now let me tell you about him. Slim Thug has been a big time rapper down South for years. Slim Thug has now signed a major deal. His debut album Already Platinum will be released on his BossHoggOutlawz imprint which is distributed via The Neptunes Star Trak label and Geffen Records. Slim's current single "Like A Boss" has been blowing up at radio and is in rotation on BET, MTV and MTV 2.

I say this often but this time I mean it. Slim Thug was my favorite interview. Slim is mad cool and so easy to talk to. It was really a cool interview.

I just heard you are on the Southern Smoke Tour. How is that going?
Slim Thug-With you T.I. We haven't got it together yet. We should be having it together by March. Maybe the end of February.

Here in VA they are already promoting it. They said that it's you, T.I., Lil Wayne.
Slim Thug-Yeah we are going to make it happen for sure. WE just have to get the dates togather.

How did you end up hooking up with Pharrell and the Neptunes?
Slim Thug-It was through him coming through my city or whatever. I was somewhere he was at he was just signing autographs and I was signing autographs. He was like, "Who is that?", Then someone introduced me. We kicked it. We went to the club and it was like that. Then I did a record with Fam-Lay. That's when he heard me rap. So that was that.

How many tattoos do you have? It looks like you have a lot.
Slim Thug-I dont know how to separate them. I have two big ones that cover both my whole arms. I dont know how to separate them. One arm I have jesus, an angel, a cross. Then on the other one I have a million dollar bill with the globe...Texas.....The Boss Slim Thug. I just both my arms decked out to my sleeves.

I heard you are opening for Snoop Dogg.
Slim Thug-Yeah, I'm on tour with Snoop. That's what I'm doing right now.

How is the tour with Snoop Dogg going?
Slim Thug-Real good, real good

How long have you been in the rap game?
Slim Thug-Yeah, I was doing independent and underground mix tapes since I was 17 back in 98. I was doing it with Swishahouse at first and then I started my own label Boss Hogg Outlawz. I was doing independent records. I was seeing good money. I was staying independent back them because the deals they were offering back then wasn't matching to what I was worth or what I was doing independent. I was doing it like that until finally I signed with Geffen/Interscope. That last year I kinda sent out, well up until that point I had never done a solo album. I wanted my solo record to go world wide and I still wanted to do my independent thing with my group Boys in Blue. I waned take myself worldwide and get attention and be able to bring my Boys in Blue with me and promote them. Everythings good right now. I'm happy.

In the news you hear about a lot of rappers getting in trouble. How do you stay out of trouble?
Slim Thug-It's just having common sense. It's just about having common sense and not trying to prove yourself to nobody. When the world is looking and you are in the public eye you can't be out there fighting and doing dumb shit because you gonna get sued. I stay out of trouble. I'm a cheap dude and if I look at a situation and it looks like I might have be some trouble where I might have to pay somebody, I'm not fu**in' with it. Say want you homebodys, girls, all that shit, I'm gonna chill. I'm gonna keep my money. That's how I stay out of trouble.

Are you going to be putting out any artists?
Slim Thug-Boys In Blue, Killa Callione, Doug Daily, PJ, Chris Ward, We all like indepndent Killa Callione signed with Interscope Boss Hogg Arti

What type of rappers did you like listening to growing up?

What current music are you feeling?
Slim Thug-I lile T.I., Lil Wayne, Game. I like alot of these new cats. They killin' it.I think my favorite is T.I.

I like T.I. too. I like that song, "Freak Though."

Was "Three Kings" the first single or "Like A Boss?"
Slim Thug- "Like A Boss" was really the first single. "Three Kings" was kind of a street record before I got signed.
